DIY: Signature Cocktail Infusions

Project and Photos by Erica O’Brien

Take the signature wedding cocktail one step further by creating your signature infusion. Using ingredients found in your home plus your favorite clear alcohol, you can further personalize your special wedding day beverage. You need not use top-shelf alcohol. Mid-price alcohols are just fine.

Recipe 1: Chai-Infused Vodka

Ingredients:

  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Cardamom pods
  • Whole nutmeg
  • Whole cloves
  • Candied ginger
  • Vodka of your choice (not pictured)

Recipe 2: Spice-Infused Tequila

Ingredients:

  • Dried chili peppers
  • Fresh jalepeno peppers
  • Whole peppercorns
  • Fresh cilantro
  • Blanco tequila (not pictured)

Recipe 3: Citrus-Infused Gin

Ingredients:

  • Candied grapefruit peel
  • Lime zest
  • Chopped lemon peel
  • Sliced oranges
  • Clear gin (not pictured)

Instructions:

Gather all your ingredients

Remove top from bottle. Glass bottles with small openings, such as swing top bottles or olive oil dispensers with pourerswork best since they won’t allow solids to pour out easily. Thoroughly wash and dry your bottle.

Insert ingredients. The more you use, the stronger the flavor. Use less if you prefer a more subtle flavor.

Ingredients should fill approximately lower third of bottle.

Use small funnel to pour clear alcohol to top of bottle. Store in a cool, dry place (such as the fridge). Allow to steep at least four days and up to one month, shaking daily to disperse the flavors, until desired flavor is achieved.

Finished product. Combine with your favorite mixers.
